From the preface:
This book has its origin in the instructions and blessings I received from my revered teacher, Swami Brahmananda. Wishing to see me grow along intellectual and literary lines side by side with the spiritual, the Swami greatly encouraged me in my study of religious and allied literature. Once he said: "Form your habit of study to such an extent that you will feel unhappy if any day you fail to pursue your studies....The mind may not always be able to remain on the spiritual plane. In that case it may be kept occupied with higher religious thoughts, and not allowed to fall into a lower plane."
During his years as head of the Philadelphia Vedanta Centre, Swami Yatiswarananda wrote an article every week as preparation for his weekly talks. These lectures, given in Philadelphia and Bangalore, were published in the magazines The Vedanta Kesari, Prabuddha Bharata, Vedanta and the West, and Vedanta for East and West. This book is a collection of these lectures culled form the various magazines. The lectures extensively deal with pursuing religious life, overcoming obstacles in religious life, achieving inner peace and harmony, and attaining religious experience.
