The Rig Veda derives its name from the word Rik which means mantra. The book is one of the four canonical sacred texts in Hinduism, known as the Vedas.
This collection of mantras or hymns was intended for recitation. The hymns are in praise of the Supreme Being, as well as various gods representing natural phenomena, domestic and abstract gods. The translation does not include Devanagri script.
